The german "Diplom" explained

The degree of the german diploma ("Diplom") can be summarized with:

More than a Bacholor, a little less than a Master.

In Germany, you can either study at a University or at a University of Applied Sciences (ger. Fachhochschule). Here, education is less theoretical than at university, and more practically oriented (for example, an internship is fixed part of the studies). You usually select projects in subjects instead of subjects themselves, and team-work is common case.

Graduation usually is after four years. In Multimedia, your titles can be "Dipl. Designer (FH) Multimedia" (focus on design) or "Dipl. Informatiker (FH) Multimedia", or even both.
( FH: abbr. ger. Fachhochschule; Informatiker: ger. Computer Scientist )
